PIANO MAN

  • Gaston Diax was a piano maker in southern France. In the early 1930s, he decided to create the Diax Piano Pedal Car. An outer shell made entirely of wood and crafted with the level of detail and precision one would expect from a piano maker. Looking like an upside-down boat and pieced together using a process called "Lapstrake", where wood planks slightly overlap each other and are then fastened to the frame. The detail in the wood planks and weathered paint on this vehicle caught my eye. I wanted to express that detail in my photo, making it stand out. I debated between black and white and color, with the color edit winning by showing the peeling paint better with the wood and nails below than the black and white edit.
